MINI MARLINS

WHO ARE MINI MARLINS?

The Mini Marlins program is designed to meet the needs of young, emerging swimmers (Ages 3+) who are water ready, but not ready to swim a full lap unassisted.

Swimmers must be willing to get in the pool and get his/her face wet in order to participate.

Requirements:

  • Ages 3+
  • Potty-trained
  • Comfortable in the water – no tears

NOTE: Mini Marlin spots are limited.

WHAT DOES THE MINI MARLIN PROGRAM LOOK LIKE?

At Practices -- depending on the swimmers' ability, they will either be...

  • Getting comfortable jumping in the pool or learning to float.
  • Learning elementary backstroke & freestyle.

At Swim Meets -- the minis are the first (exhibition) race across the pool.

  • There will be a 1:1 coach to swimmer in each lane to ensure the minis are safe.
  • Coaches will assist as much is necessary, but also encourage more advanced swimmers to swim the lap as independently as possible.
  • After this race you are not required to stay any longer!

BLUE MARLINS

WHO ARE BLUE MARLINS?

The Blue Marlins program is designed to meet the needs of emerging swimmers (Ages 6+) who are still building the stamina to swim a full lap unassisted. As each swimmer improves and gains the necessary skills to attend their age group practice on the team and swim in a meet unassisted, they will graduate to the Swim Team.

Requirements:

  • Ages 6+
  • Able to swim freestyle & backstroke

NOTE: Blue Marlin spots are limited.

WHAT DOES THE BLUE MARLIN PROGRAM LOOK LIKE?

At Practices -- depending on the swimmers' ability, they will either be...

  • Refining elementary backstroke & freestyle.
  • Building stamina and proper form in order to make it the full length of the pool.

At Swim Meets -- the Blue Marlins can swim the first (exhibition) race across the pool.

  • There will be a 1:1 coach to swimmer in each lane to ensure the blues are safe.
  • Coaches will assist as much is necessary, but also encourage more advanced swimmers to swim the lap as independently as possible.
  • After this race you are not required to stay any longer!

IF YOUR SWIMMER IS STARTING THE SEASON AS A BLUE MARLIN...

... that does not necessarily mean your swimmer will stay a Blue Marlin!

  • We'll be working hard to help each swimmer feel confident and capable to make it across the pool unassisted and with proper form.
  • If blue marlins are able to attend practices regularly, they build ability and stamina fast.
  • Once a 4+ swimmer is able to make it across the pool unassisted we will move them over to the swim team (it doesn't matter how far into the swim season it is!)

MINI+BLUE PARENT REQUIREMENTS

AT PRACTICES

To ensure the safety and comfort of all swimmers, we kindly request all parents STAY ONSITE during practices instead of dropping off/picking up.

We have lounge seating on the patio overlooking the pool where you can view your swimmer without distracting them.

AT MEETS

Because the Mini & Blue Marlins are the first swim of the meet, we DO NOT require the parents of minis/blues-only to work volunteer shifts.

Once swimmers are a part of the Swim Team we do ask parents to work a shift each meet. We prioritize first-shift roles for 6&Under swimmers' parents since they often finish all their races in the first half and can go home early.

Our priority is to facilitate an environment where every child can thrive and develop their swimming skills safely!
