Meet information from AA

Parents, please review this information below from Apalachee Aquatics carefully.  Take note that no one is allowed to enter the pool area until 4:30, and use the map link in this email for directions.

POOL

Please be aware that we do not have starting blocks. When the county increased the depth requirement to 4 feet we had them removed, as our pool is 3.5 feet at each end. We know that's a hard issue for many of the swimmers or parents to get past (including our own), so we wanted to give you a heads up so you can have your team mentally prepared in advance. Even though it would seem a big deal, the truth is that every meet we have many swimmers on both sides who improve their times!

ARRIVAL

We ask that parents, swimmers and spectators not enter the pool area until 4:30pm.  Per our HOA agreement, we need to keep the pool deck mostly clear until then so the lifeguards can complete their pre-meet responsibilities.  Your team area is accessible without entering the pool deck, so families are welcome to settle in there prior to then 4:30.  AA’s warm up time is from 5:10-5:30 and your team warm up time is from 5:30-5:50.

ADDRESS & PARKING

THIS IS IMPORTANT- Use this hyperlink to arrive at the poolhttps://goo.gl/maps/fKbdBdm2Pfn and save it to your phones. But if you forget to check and arrive at the mailing address, you’re only about a half mile away, so you should be able to find it no problem. When the lot is full families may park in the Clubview neighborhood that connects to our parking lot. Parking is only permitted on one side of the street and it will be marked accordingly. In addition there is overflow parking at the Apalachee Trophy Club (golf course) across the street. We will also be auctioning a parking space off to the highest bidder as an additional fundraiser. Your families are welcome to participate as well. The bidding starts at $20 and you can email me, at [email protected]

TEAM AREA

We do have a large covered pavilion (with ceiling fans and tables/benches) for your team to use for their bullpen area, so if your team is in the habit of bringing small tents they won't be needed. There is a small playground area right by it that your younger kids are more than welcome to use to entertain themselves while not swimming. We do ask that the kids not throw or kick the mulch/wood chips and that they stay off the tennis courts that are adjacent to the area. We've had a few issues in the past with other teams, so our tennis pro has asked us to mention it if possible.

HEAT SHEETS

Heat sheets will be sold right inside gate of the main pool entrance.  They cost $2.

PARENTS/SPECTATORS

Apalachee Aquatics parents and spectators sit facing the clubhouse and the visiting team sits on the side of the pool closest to the clubhouse and bathrooms.  It does get a good amount of sun so you may want encourage your parents to bring umbrellas or tents for the sunny first half of the meet.  We both have big teams so we encourage people to sit where they can find a spot :)

INCLEMENT WEATHER

In case of bad weather we ask that your swimmers, families, volunteers and spectators go to their cars.

CONCESSIONS

Our concession area sells hot dogs, and other 'meet food' as well as the usual assortment of drinks, chips and candies.

SCORING TABLE & RESULTS

The scoring table is located at the top of our clubhouse and there will also be a table for awards volunteers to work on ribbons.  We ask that only council members, coaches and awards volunteers enter the clubhouse.  We post results on the windows of the clubhouse right outside the bathroom.

THEME:

This week's theme is Neon Night. Feel free to wear your favorite neon stuff! (but no face paint on swimmers, please!) Also, this being AA's final home meet of the season, it will be Senior Night for our swimmers who will age out after this season. Hearty applause during their ‘victory lap’ is always welcome!

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT

In an effort to help kids look beyond themselves and serve their local community, Apalachee Aquatics is joining forces with “Nothing but the Truth” organization. Nothing but the Truth provides “Weekend Food Bags” for children in Gwinnett & Barrow County elementary schools. These children participate in the Free Lunch Program during the week but have been identified by their school counselors as being in need of additional food for the weekends. We will place some large boxes/bins outside the fence at the swim meet and anyone is welcome to drop off the food items, such as Mac & Cheese boxes and other non-perishable items. We choose this organization because it specifically serves Gwinnett & Barrow County students and we liked the idea of our kids helping other kids in the area.  Let's show some MARLINS spirit and participate with donations.
