Note from Jared.....

Hey Marlin County Team,

First off, congratulations on making it into the County Meet this summer. As we approach the County Championship Meet next week, I will be sending out a few emails with advice for the meet.

This email concerns suits worn at County. Our team policy is that swimmers must wear the blue Edinburgh suit at all the meets. This policy is to ensure unity for the team and is implemented in order to have a common team uniform to distinguish ourselves at our meets.

For the County Meet, we will be swimming in a world recognized championship pool (former site of the olympics and mulitple national championship meets), and we will be competing for another top 10 finish at county. For this reason, our team has an exception to the Edinburgh suit policy. If your swimmer would like to wear a FINA Approved championship technical racing suit such as a Speedo Faskskin or a TYR Tracer or Avictor suit for the County meet, then they are allowed and encouraged to do so. If your swimmer does not have such a suit, the Edinburgh Marlins suit is a great suit and should be worn as usual. The high-tech racing suits are allowed for the advantage they give swimmers over the standard racing team suits used by summer league teams including ours.

If you would be interested in purchasing a championship racing suit for your swimmer, it would benefit them in their races at County.

Things to consider before investing in such a suit:

-Your child’s interest in swimming: if they will no longer be swimming after this year, it is probably not worth the purchase, but if they will continue swimming, it can be used for future championship meets.

-The cost of different suits: Speedo and TYR have several great options, but they are a financial investment (typically $100-$500 depending on type and size)

-FINA approved: make sure the suit is FINA approved. FINA is the world swimming organization, and they forbid certain fabrics and styles of suits. Just double check before you make a purchase.

-Care for the suit: these suits are not for practicing in. They are designed to only be worn for a handful of championship meets. A well taken care of championship suit can be used for a couple of years worth of meets.

-Fit: The suits are designed to fit snug and tight and should be carefully put on and taken off.

Another option would be borrowing a high-tech racing suit from a friend or fellow Marlin swimmer for the County meet. This saves on costs and gives your swimmer an advantage at County. If you have a spare suit that you would be willing to share with another Marlin, let me know. Once again, just be sure to check to make sure the suit is FINA approved and fits appropriately.

If you have any questions, please email me or give me a call.

Thanks,

Jared Magnuson
