Monday's Meet- JDRF Fundraiser!

Tis the Season for Giving!!

The Marlins are doing a fundraiser at our last home meet benefiting JDRF again this year. The mission of JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) is to find a cure for type 1 diabetes (T1D) and its complications through support and research.

T1D is an autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas.  You can't get T1D from eating too much candy.  You can't prevent T1D.  It can't be controlled with diet and exercise like type 2 diabetes. Managing T1D is a 24/7 job.  You have to check your blood sugar (by finger pricks) before every meal, change in activity level, or when you just don't feel right.  You have to try to act like a pancreas, calculating how much insulin you need constantly, as well as additional amounts you need for everything you ingest.  When your blood glucose is high, you need more insulin; when it's low, you need less insulin (all through injections or an insulin pump).  Exercise, temperature, stress, illness, hormones, all affect your blood glucose and amounts of insulin you need.  A normal pancreas takes care of this naturally.

On Monday, at our last meet of the season, we'll be selling yummy baked goods, fresh popcorn, glow in dark bracelets, light up mini-helicopters, as well as raffle tickets for some amazing prizes, including:

  • Laser Voyage Family Pack
  • Atlanta Jayhawks 2 months tuition tumbling class
  • $50 Dave & Busters gift card
  • 2  $25 itunes gift cards
  • 1  $25 Starbucks gift card
  • Duluth Package Store Wine Basket
  • Napa Auto Parts Gift Basket
  • Sea Atlanta gift card
  • Nicole C Photography Photo Session
  • UPS Photo Canvas
  • 2  $10 Sunshine Chinese gift certificates
  • 2  AdvoCare Health & Wellness Baskets

Please consider baking something for the bake sale (cookies, brownies, rice krispies, cakes, etc.)!  This was very popular last year because everyone loves a sweet treat!!  You can bring baked goods to practice in the morning (we'll store in the clubhouse) or directly to the meet.  If you can, wrap the items individually.  If not, we'll store as best we can!  You can also drop off baked items to 5152 Enniskillen Court on Sunday if that works better for your schedule.  Just call/text Charlotte at 770-855-8415.  All is greatly appreciated!

Please bring extra cash on Monday for the bake sale, popcorn, raffle tickets, etc.  Last year we raised close to $700 that went directly to JDRF!  Every little bit makes a difference!

Thanks for your support!
